Bill Reich (an idiot) has a Youtube vid, created a couple of weeks before the election, called "How to Stop Trump from Stealing the Election", in which he explains how and why it might be completely legal and constitutional for Trump to win a very close, contested election. The possible scenario he describes is Congressional resolution via the 12th Amendment, aka "the law". He then explains how Democrats might win enough Congressional races to turn this process in their favor. To summarize, he says that if Trump wins this way, it's theft, so let's win it that way ourselves which, apparently for some reason would not be theft. He closes the video by repeating the mantra "keep Trump from stealing the election". This is just yet another example of how leftism blinds people to common sense and eventually subsumes rational thought all together.

Frankly, I have very little problem with the vast majority of the content in this video. It is the title, the tone and the conclusion that Trump is trying to "steal" the election that is idiotic. The exact same script with a different title and omission of the accusations of theft could easily be used by Republicans to explain and defend the Constitutional process by which they might legally and peacefully win the election. It is strictly his delivery and the implications of wrongdoing that turn this into propaganda - by exciting an emotional response intended to overwhelm the presentation of the facts to make them appear sinister.

Some points on his video, indexed by time markers in the video:

0:03: Asserts that mail in ballots  were "made necessary by the pandemic". This is patently false, of course, but was the rationale used to justify the mail-in process. It is not just unproven, but untrue, because:

  • The CDC published tips for in person voting, saying, "Voters have the right to vote [in person] regardless of whether they are sick or in quarantine." They obviously recommend standard precautions as well as minimizing time at the polling place, etc. But they have never indicated persons should not go to a polling location due to Covid-19 risks.
  • My state of residence, CA, even put out posters with Covid tips for people voting in person. This included advice on how to avoid damaging the paper ballot with alcohol, etc.
  • Common sense tells us that waiting in line to vote is no different than waiting in line to get into a grocery store or restricted occupancy restuarant, etc.
  • No official source, in fact no one but the legacy media, has ever maintained that voting in person was unsafe, as far as I can tell.

0:15: "Americans are more likely to be struck by lightning than commit voter fraud".

  • I believe that. The National Weather Service estimates the odds of being hit by lightning in an average lifetime is surprisingly high - 1 in 15,300.
  • But that's hardly the point. The point is that, "Every vote counts", right? I believe that too.
  • Every single fraudulent vote cancels out - effectively steals - one legitimate vote on the other side. (That's why my mother used to always say as she left for the polls, "Well, I have to go cancel out your father's vote now...")

0:17: So we should "expect him to dispute election results in any Republican led state he loses by a small margin".

  • Yes. That's why every state has procedures for doing so.
  • That's why it happens in virtually every election cycle in some close contest somewhere
  • The exact same logic applies to Democrats, which he is either unaware of or fails to mention

0:30: "Be ready for him to go to the House of Representatives to put him over the top."

  • Why would he make such a prediction? Because that's the law. The highest law in the land - the U.S. Constitution.
  • Exactly this has been done 3 times in the past for close or disputed Presidential elections, in 1800, 1824 and 1876. All 3 of those elections were eerily similar to the current one, including, "threats of violence and talk of the Virginia or Pennsylvania militias marching on the Capitol" and "became the existential crisis in which neither side recognized the other side as legitimate and feared for future of the country". (Ref Contested Election History from Time magazine..)

0:55 - 1:40: Reich briefly explains the 12th Amendment - by which an election might lawfully pass to the Congress for resolution.

  • Reich clearly clearly understands that this process is perfectly legal and is outlined in detail in the Constitution.

1:40 - 3:00: He details the political realities and machinations involved in the process

  • Importantly, he outlines the current political reality that this process would favor the Republican party over the Democrat party. He apparently feels this should influence the application of the law, but of course it does not. Sometimes timing and luck come into play - especially if the normal means haven't worked and the election has fallen back to plan C. But none of that transforms the Constitutional process into "theft".
  • At about 2:05 he goes into detail about how the timing of swearing in of Congress differs from the swearing in of the President and how this would affect the process. In other words, he goes through exactly the same scenario and calculation that he apparently believes would make a Republican victory via this path into theft.
  • His analysis goes into state by state detail, including how many congressmen are retiring, etc.

3:15 - end: He summarizes by claiming that "Donald Trump will stop at nothing to retain his power"

  • This includes urging people to vote Democrat "down ballot", so that a new Democrat profile in Congress can ensure a Democrat victory if the election actually is thrown into the hands of Congress.
  • In other words, he says the process that would currently favor Republicans would be theft - and Democrats should change the balance so that they can be the thieves rather than the Republicans. Nice.

Although after consideration of the above I must say, it's actually more likely that he's a cynical, amoral, manipulative, lying power monger than an idiot. But he definitely wants YOU to believe this idiocy. Instead, please think.
