Van Jones is a Democrat party political operative with the distinctive of being pretty honest about political situations and his role in them. He is frankly sometimes quite blunt.
He made comments after the DNC Convention's final night, and on Joe Biden's acceptance speech. His commentary was as revealing as it was honest. He made unambiguously clear, in the space of a few sentences, a couple of obvious facts:
- Expectations for Joe Biden's speech were abysmally low
- Democrat pundits were very nervous that Mr. Biden would "blow it"
- In fact, Biden delivered a very good speech. (Meh...)
But more importantly he was very revealing about the CNN (at least) coverage of the event. Anyone who watches and compares media outlets knows that these traits are near universal in CNN coverage, but here are Mr. Jone's observations after the speech:
- The pundits were planning to "...come out here and praise it..." regardless of the actual speech. This would be neither surprising nor particularly bad for Democrat party spokesmen. For CNN, an alleged news organization, it is certainly not surprising, but very particularly bad. Politicians are *supposed* to spin - it's their job. They're marketeers. But a news organization is supposed to present facts, as well as viewpoints from multiple perspectives about those facts. CNN is simply no longer a news organization, and no longer tries to be nor even pretends to be.
- The pundits had an easy job that night - because they "don't have to make anything up tonight". The context was clear that they most certainly would have if necessary - in fact, it's what they apparently expected to do.
The horror here is not about Joe Biden's speech, or Van Jone's (or my) opinion of it. The horror is how casually Jones discusses the blatant one sided bias of CNN towards Biden. CNN is a lot of things, and not a single one of them is a news organization.
